Oh, freedom

1. Oh, freedom !
Oh, freedom !
Oh, freedom over me !

Refrain:
And before I’ll be a slave,
I’ll be buried in my grave,
and go home to my Lord
and be free !

2. No segregation
No segregation
No segregation over me !

3. No more weeping
No more weeping
No more weeping over me !

4. There’ll be singing
There’ll be singing
There’ll be singing over me !

Bread and roses

Lyrics: James Oppenheim
Music: Martha Coleman or Caroline Kohlsaat
and Mimi Farina

As we come marching, marching, in the beauty of the day,
A million darkened kitchens, a thousand mill lofts grey,
Are touched with all the radiance that a sudden sun discloses
For the people hear us singing,
"Bread and roses, bread and roses !"

As we come marching, marching, we battle too for men
For they are women's children and we mother them again.
Our lives shall not be sweated from birth until life closes,
Hearts can starve as well as bodies,
"Give us bread and give us roses !"

As we come marching, marching, un-numbered women dead
Go crying through our city their ancient song of bread.
Small art and love and beauty their drudging spirits knew-
Yes, it is bread that we fight for,
But we fight for roses too !

As we come marching, marching, we bring the greater day,
The rising of the women will show us all the way !
No more the drudge and idler, ten that toil where one reposes,
But a sharing of life's glories,
"Bread and roses, bread and roses !"

Rebellflickan

Det finns många slags kvinnor i världen,
det vet alla som sett sej omkring.
Några går där i lyxen och flärden
ibland dyra och kostbara ting.
Det finns kvinnor i siden och sammet
och de glittra som himmelens päll,
men den endaste kvinna värd namnet
är en ung rebell.

Hon är ung rebell, hon är ung rebell,
i vår klasskamp lyser hon segersäll.

i vår klasskamp lyser hon segersäll.
Hon ger kraft och mod i strid
när hon står invid vår sida.
Vi behöver er, vi behöver fler
när jorden får sin löneslavskartell.
Hon är stark i frihetskampen,
hon är ung rebell.
